___________

Dee Dee, Barry & The Movements - Soul Hour - MPS
Rare LP of soul covers recorded in Switzerland 1968. Heavy breaks on “Get Out Of My Life Woman” “Funky Broadway” and others. Scarcer than dolphin shit. (VG+/EX) $250

Roland Haynes - 2nd Wave - Black Jazz
One of the rarer titles on this collectible label. Awash in moody keys and frantic, funky breaks… check out the dope Title Track (VG+/EX) $60

Monk Higgins - Extra Soul Perception - Solid State
This record gets a bad rap as “1995 wall of fame” but I think it’s filthy. Big Band Chicago Funk with samples and beats all over. Check out the Title Track (EX/EX) $50

Jongo Trio - S/T - Farroupilha
Obscure and good 60s bossa-jazz trio. LP features songs written by Baden Powell, Marcos Valle, Johnny Alf, Edu Lobo, Vinicius de Moraes, and Hermeto Pascual. Listen to “O Menino Das Laranjas” (VG+/VG+) $40

Sam Taylor, Jr. - The Tunnels Of My Mind - GRT
Under-the-radar funky soul LP written mostly by Taylor himself. While most of the cuts fit comfortably in with 70s soul material by the likes of Syl Johnson or Johnnie Taylor, but check out the deep Title Track (VG+/EX) $45

Sun Ra - Outer Reach Intensity-Energy/Stars That Shine Darkly… - Saturn
Actually there are five songs on the first side, which you can see in the picture. Listen to “Outer Reach Intensity-Energy”. 1985 release on his label. plain red 12″ sleeve (EX/EX) $75

(VG+/EX) $75

The Checkmates LTD. - F/S/O - Rustic
Cool 70s funky soul LP produced by Sonny Charles on this small label. My favorite on here is the slamming downtempo “I Must Be Dreaming” (NM/EX) $25

Steve Cropper - With A Little Help From My Friends - Volt
God, I don’t know why people sleep on this one. The MGs guitarist cuts a solo album, covers “Land Of 1000 Dances”, “Funky Broadway”, “Midnight Hour”, and the title cut, awesome and cheap, check out “Crop Dustin’” (EX/EX) $15

Grading according to this scale:
Jacket/Vinyl
NM (Near Mint): Record has been opened, and probably played, but is in impeccable condition. Rarely used
EX (Excellent): Has signs of use or storage, but still considered top collection quality. Jackets may display some very light wear; vinyl may have a few light sleeve marks only visible in the highest light. Sound will full and clear, with little if any noise (NOTE, some records are just pressed poorly).
VG+ (Very Good Plus): Still a nice copy but has a bit more wear. Vinyl may have some light scuffs or scratches, but nothing deep. Jacket may have some ringwear or seamwear. Sound should be great, with minimal if any noise.
VG (Very Good): A great play copy but clearly used. Vinyl will display many hairline scuffs or scratches, but will play with a tolerable amount of noise. Jacket may have splits and wear but will not be falling apart.
VG-, G: A record that has not been taken good care of. Will display scuffs, scratches, warps, and other defects. Will NOT skip unless otherwise noted, but will play with noise.

Oliver Sain - Main Man and Monk Higgins - Extra Soul Perception. Do you still have them??? - Pleaseeeeee say yes LOL
October 8th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
if these are all sold then why keep them up on the page?
October 31st, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Well… for a few reasons. First off, not all of them are sold. Of course, the ones that are in high demand usually sell within hours of posting them, but some are still around. Second, and this is my fault, I’m really bad at updating these lists. And third, because it’s a testament to the quality of merchandise being offered here. I try to answer emails and calls for any items as quickly as I can even if the record was sold back in 2006. Anyway, thanks for checking in and I hope you come visit us in person (all the best stuff is off-line!) cheers, jonny
