New LP in stock - Nisennenmondai!

So the boy Scrappy hipped me to this excellent Japanese noise/rock band Nisennenmondai (Myspace Here) simply with the words “one of few new bands out there who truly rock”. I concurred, and wondered what vinyl was out there. I found out US indie Heartworm Records just released a limited, white vinyl double LP of material so I scooped up a small few for the shop.
Shades of 99 Records, early Kraftwerk, punk, drone… hypnotic, aggressive, full of intense bursts and sudden changes. Anyway I rarely write well about new music so I resurrected TurntableLab reviewer Bob Bannister from his hibernation in the mountains of Uzbekistan where he is working on a Folkways-like recording of the noise created by friction between rocks and the balls of the feet of local goat herders. He took a few minutes to write the following praise of this band:
Nisennenmondai
crucial vinyl release of 2 early century CD-only albums from the best band in japan. spare me your indignation. guitar sounds like hail-sized shards of tin ceiling falling on your face from a lofted bedroom. the drums are pumice stones being rolled over by a tank on a lost 1977 war footage highlight reel. the bass is really normal though. it’s like playing bass behind jimi hendrix. just play bass. what i’m saying is, this shit could not be harder. the fact that it’s 3 stoic girls who perform in chicken masks? i think it’s pretty obvious what that means.
The print run was crazy limited so pick one up before they’re gone!
