R.I.P. DJ Roc Raida

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

We’re losing too many, fam. Raida was one of the best that ever did it.

Here is his DMC World Championship routine from 1995… dude is killing it with his smirk alone.

Versus Lord Finesse… all in good fun… honestly I had no idea Finesse got it in like that!

And the famous 1996 routine…

Rest In Power.

Thank You, Bump Shop!

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

This evening the boys will fire up the system in the basement of Club APT one last time.

Thanks for the memories and the music. I’ve had such a great time at this party over the years… it’ll be hard to replace.

I’ve begun to take the long way home, just so I can be alone…

Friday, June 26th, 2009

I don’t have too much to say – I was raised on MJ. His death has just devastated me. Thank you, Michael, for such amazing music.

edit: this, from Andrew Sullivan, I think says it well:

I loved his music. His young voice was almost a miracle, his poise in retrospect eery, his joy, tempered by pain, often unbearably uplifting. He made the greatest music video of all time; and he made some of the greatest records of all time. He was everything our culture worships; and yet he was obviously desperately unhappy, tortured, afraid and alone.

I hope his soul finds rest.

Tony D, Rest In Peace

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Sad news on this Sunday, I have received word that the prolific and influential hip-hop producer Tony D was killed last night in a car accident in his home state of New Jersey. I had the pleasure to meet Tony on a couple of occasions, but have spent far more time with the music he put down on wax. He will be missed. My condolences go out to his friends and family… I’ll leave the rest to Trenton’s finest, the Poor Righteous Teachers. Rest In Peace.
